Book Review on Frozen In Time!!!

Hi readers, long time no blog. Today, I would like to share with you a book which I have read during the September holidays. The Book FROZEN IN TIME. Brr... cold. But wait till you read it. The story starts with two children Ben and Rachel. Both of them, during their Summer holiday, were stuck with their uncle, Jerome. It was raining heavily that Summer and when it finally stop, Ben and Rachel found a vault when they went out to play in the garden. Inside the vault, they found to children, Fred and Polly, both of whom were place into cyro-suspension by their father. When they awake, they found themselves in another world with their father gone. Later, when Uncle Jerome found out what had happened, he also realised that both Fred and Polly were his uncle and aunt and they were Ben And Rachel's great uncle and aunt. To hide this secret, the group of five wanted others to thing Polly and Fred were old-fasioned because they came from another country. The childrens got along very well and Ben and Rachel were "tour guides to Fred and Polly. Both Fred and Polly learned fast and also show Ben and Rachel useful tips that were used in the past too. When they were having a lot of fun, Fred had a nose-bleed which could result in both Fred and Polly's death. Luckily, the government was watching over them and when a spy found out that Fred and Polly survived cryo-suspension, she decided to hand them over to the russian government. When the russian government men came to catch them, the four began to fight their way through, hoping to survive. when they were captured, their government came to the rescue. Later, the government exchanged the captured russian men for Doctor Henry, Fred and Polly's father. They later found out that Doctor Henry made the cryo-suspension on his own and manage to preserve himself. He manage to make cure to stop the death. In the end, Uncle Jerome, Doctor Henry, Fred, Polly, Ben, Rachel live happily ever after.

Nuclear Energy

Nuclear energy produces electricity through a process called fission. In 1956, the first commercial nuclear power plant opened in England. In the United States, as of 2008, there were 104nuclear reactors producing about 20 percent of the country's electricity needs.Nuclear energy doesn't produce greenhouse gases , and no pollution is released into the air. Compared to coal or other fossil fuels, the emissions from nuclear power plants are very clean. Some people say we should build more power plants to reduce greenhouse gases pollution. However, the waste from nuclear energy stays dangerously radioactive for thousands of years.
Other than fission, there is another kind of nuclear energy is fusion. This is the energy that powers the sun and stars. However, scientists cannot yet control the process on earth. If scientists could learn how to create and control fusion, it could become an energy source that is clean and would never run out.

How does fission work?

Everything is made up of tiny atoms. Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. Some elements, like helium are small, composed of only one proton. Some are large. Uranium, the heaviest element in nature, has 92 protons.
Because uranium is so heavy, the atoms break apart easily. This is why uranium is used as a fuel in nuclear reactors. Fisson happens when a neutron crashes into a uranium atoms and spilt it. The neutrons from that atoms then crash into other atoms, and so on. When huge numbers of neutrons are crashing into atoms, it is called a chain reaction. A chain reaction produces heat.
At the centre of the nuclear power plant is reactor, where fission takes place. Inside the reactor is a supply of uranium, called the core. If the uranium reactor were left on its own, the chain reaction would get out of control. It would became so hot that that the reactor would melt, and then it would pass through the floor. Dangerous radiation would escape in the air. This would be a terrible disaster called the meltdown. To prevent this, scientist have used cooling rods or control rod, that are lowered into the nuclear reactor. This keep the reactor from getting too hot,and control the change reactions.

How does nuclear power plant produce eletricity

A nuclear power plant controls the chain reaction of the uranium to produce heat in the reactor. Water is pumped through the hot reactor. Water is pumped through the hot reactor. Water heats up and turns into steam turns turbines. Then, a generator converts the motion of the turbines into electricity.
Uranium is used for fuel in power plants. It is a non-renewable energy source, but it is fairly common. Much of te uranium used in North America is mined in the western states.
Uranium itself is radioactive. Radioactivity is a stream of particles or rays given off by certain kinds of matter. Radiation can cause serious illnesses or death. The uranium is kept in a sealed building called a containment building. Radiation does not get into the water or air unless there is an acident or disaster.

Advantages and Disadvantages of nuclear energy

Advantages:
1. produces no greenhouse gases
2. steam is released into the atmosphere by nuclear plants
3. such a powerful source of energy, more than fossil fuels.
4. from a relatively small amount of nuclear fuel, a very large amount of energy is produced

Disadvantages:
1. the biggest problem with the nuclear energy is the waste it produces is highly radioactive
2. the waste is made by using up all the fuel in nuclear reactors
3. the waste remains radioactive for 10 000 years or more
4. very little place to store the waste

The story of Three Mile Island:

On March 28, 1979, a technical problem occurred in a water pump at Three Mile Island. The water was cooling the reactor. When the pump failed, the reactor began to overheat. Another technical failure occurred in a halve that was releasing excess steam. The operators of the plant didn't have enough information to figure out what the problem was, and they made a number of errors that made the problem worse.
During the tense next few days, engineers tried to cool the reactor and solve the other problems that were happening inside the plant. The government of Pennsylvania advised children and pregnant women, the most vulnerable to radioactivity , to leave the area. Radioactivity was released into the air, and almost half the reactor melted down. However, the reactor meltdown was contained and eventually cooled. Although no one died in the accident, it made people fearful of the nuclear industry.

Fusion energy: The Hope and the Reality

Scientists have been trying to make fusion power for 50 years. While knowledge has constantly advanced, it's unclear if the technological hurdles will be overcome anytime soon. It takes a lot of energy to make a process hot enough for fusion. However, if it works, fusion will produce more energy than is required to make it. Scientist believed that fusion will have no waste products-no greenhouse gases or long-term radioactive waste.
They also believed that fusion power plants will be safer than fission power plants. With fusion, there is little chance of melting down or releasing radiation. while fusion reactors would still be radioactive , most scientist believed that the reactor elements would only be radioactive for 50 to 100 years. The radioactive elements from fission reactors, on the other hand, will stay radioactive for thousands of years.

Transcript of an interview with Miss Wee about the story: Lamb To the Slaughter

The following would show you the transcript of an interview with Miss Wee...

I: Good morning Mrs Wee. I would like to interview you regarding Mrs Maloney in the
story: Lamb To The Slaughter.

Q1: What is your opinion of Mrs Maloney killing her husband?

Miss Wee replied: Mrs Maloney is vicious, evil and she had planned all this and what amazes me is that she used a frozen leg of lamb to hit the back of her husband's head and no one to my knowledge had used a frozen leg of lamb to kill her husband------very extraordinary way to rid of ones husband.

Q2: What is your opinion of Mrs Maloney killing her husband?

Miss Wee answered: She is very crafty. Immediately after the murder, she made her way to the supermarket to buy groceries. so that it is a perfect alibi that she was not the murder. moreover she cleverly called up the police to make a report. Being a wife of a detective, she must have been exposed to stories of crimes and how criminals cover their criminal acts to escape the law.

Q3: What punishment do you think Mary Maloney deserves?

Miss Wee said: She deserves to be hanged because it is a deliberate act. On the other hand, being a pregnant woman, the court could sentence her life imprisonment after the delivery of her child.

Last Q: What do you think is her reason for murdering her husband?

Miss Wee replied: think she senses that her husband has lost his love for her and hinting that he would provide her the means if he leaves her. She could not bear losing her husband especially when she is with a child. Rather than losing her husband to another woman, she heartlessly, in blind a blind rage, bludgeoned her husband with the leg of a lamb.

Review on Lamb To The Slaughter

"Lamb to the Slaughter" by the famous author, Roald Dahl whose story was loved by many children, was a very enjoyable and witty short story. The story revolves around Mary Maloney, who loved her husband, a respected policeman named Patrick Maloney. She always put him before herself. Life was bliss and the couples were together until Patrick had found another woman to marry and decided to leave Mary. Due to the thought of Patrick leaving her, she decided to kill Patrick. After killing him Mary thought about the baby in her and cover up her crime. To me, the story is very exciting and you should read it. :)

Halo

Do any of you play halo? It is a great x-box 360 game that I had play when I got my first x-box in 2004. Now there are 5 Halo games so far and another is coming out in the late 2010. The last Halo game that bungie is going to make is called Halo:Reach. It is an action pack game. In that game players would play a character in the "Noble Team", called "Noble Six". "Noble Team" is a 6 man squad ,which mostly consist of mostly Spartan 111 soldiers.

The haiti earthquake

Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake as a result, many buildings were destroyed. Now many homeless people are there dying of hunger and thirst. Luckily people from different countries came to their aid, but their aid was not enough as the Haitians are still hungry and thirsty which cause lots of fights and looting. I hope people who are reading my blog now can give a helping hand to them by donating stuff to the misfortunate.

Do you think parents should give us the freedom of playing com . Please state the reason.

You see many kids now of days have been playing to much computer games and has been addicted to computer games such as Maple Story, Mouse Hunt and many more.... just because of those addictive computer games, many children has fall into the hands of the computer games and usually forgot to do their homework, thus resulting in deterioration in the grades. In fact there is some thing even worst... You see some kids or teenagers had been playing those computer games day and night that one day they thought their lives were like the game and saw thier parents as "monsters" so they killed their parents without thinking. I felt that we can play a little of computer games in a week. Maybe 2 hours a week. I how readers, such as parents or students who read this might be able to advise others who play too much computer games to stop playing so much.
